Tutorials in AVID
Tutorial Request Forms - How to properly prepare for Tutorial!
Before Class:
In AVID we have a full block tutorial. This class is an opportunity for students to get help from an AVID tutor. Students are expected to arrive to class with their 1 page TRF (Tutorial Request Form) filled out, identifying their Point of Confusion on their homework. This question should be a genuine struggle for them to find the answer to.
During Monday and/or Wednesday Classes:
Once in class students are grouped by their Subject of struggle. In their peer groups of 5-6 they set up 3 column notes and prepare to work closely with peers and their designated AVID tutor. Each student will take their turn presenting their homework question to the class by writing it up on a whiteboard. Their group members will prompt them with various inquiry questions to help them reach a resolution.
In addition, while another student is presenting, the rest of the group practices recording 3 column notes to help support their peer's learning.
End of Tutorial/ Class:
For the last 10 minutes of class, students are given time to complete the final step of their Tutorial, This is their reflection piece, as we encourage students to look back on their learning and set goals for their future learning as well.
