Assignment Logs - AVID students update their logs with assignments that are due to be completed as homework, projects to be done, etc. This is a quick checklist type of sheet, found at the front of each subject. It helps students keep track of their work before and after they get it back from their teacher. These are completed for all academic subjects.
Learning Logs - AVID students on a daily basis reflect on the learning they've done in class. In their log they can write out a question they struggled with or a tip from their notes they learned to understand. They also create a Costa Question to help develop their critical thinking in that subject area even further!

Study Strategies

When you are preparing for a test:
They put a study plan in place for each of their academics subjects, with the
"Start with the End" mentality.
They put a study plan in place for each of their academics subjects, with the
"Start with the End" mentality.
- They write down the date of their exam
- They pick 3 specific days in advance to work with
- The first day is for picking out important notes/review packages. Adding summaries, highlight or circle key ideas making sure their study pile is ready.
- The second day is review and preparation day. This day is for the student to use their cornell notes as a review tool (flash card/foldable style) and to also make any additional flash cards or cornell post-it notes.
- *Note: It is after this preparation that students should have a good awareness of any major struggles and students are still able to meet with their subject's teacher for additional support as needed.
- The third day is for their final big study and review session before the exam. Students have engaged in the review process while preparing and polishing their notes/ flash cards and review packages, but today they will designate specific study time to do a final walk through of ALL of their notes/key ideas/biggest struggles and most challenging concepts.
Cornell Notes

Our focus is on learning the correct study strategies! Often students know that they should study- however, they do not know HOW to actually study.
Cornell Notes are a key part of preparing AVID students for performing well in their classes and on tests.
Each week students will be taking 3-5 pages of Cornell Notes and reviewing and revising them with focus on key words, big concepts, high level Costa Questions and proper note summaries.
We have done in class Cornell Notes stations so that students know what is expected and we will continue to explore what important information and key concepts are vs. the filler/background information.
