AVID 9 with Ms. Wood - Block 1
AVID Strategies that we use on a regular basis
Learning Logs - AVID students on a daily basis reflect on the learning they've done in class. In their log they can write out a question they struggled with or a tip from their notes they learned to understand. They also create a Costa Question to help develop their critical thinking in that subject area even further!
Assignment Logs - AVID students update their logs with assignments that are due to be completed as homework, projects to be done, etc. This is a quick checklist type of sheet, found at the front of each subject. It helps students keep track of their work before and after they get it back from their teacher. These are completed for all academic subjects.
Weekly Checklist - AVID students have a lot of useful study strategies to use on a regular basis - to help them keep track of these learned strategies and to promote self-reflection and individual determination - students are given this checklist to keep track of how they are doing using these AVID methods. It's also a great reminder check list to look at each night to make sure they're done all of the steps and strategies they need to have done. It is quick and easy and students and parents can refer to it at anytime!

Costa's Levels of Thinking - Quality Questions and Critically Thinking
Students have recently watched a video on how to create higher level thinking questions. For the month of November (and moving forward) students will be practicing using these 3 Levels of questioning to promote their own critical thinking skills and to help them make deeper connections with the material they are learning in each subject area. Their first goal is to practice posing and answering Level 2 and 3 questions in their daily Learning Log reflections.
